Pope Francis preaches against FGM in Kenia and The Gambia declares FGM as un-Islamic

Pope Francis has made a clear statement against FGM during his visit in Kenia and has blamed arrogance of men for the torture on girls and women.

The Gambia´s President Yahya Jammeh and many religious leaders in the Gambia declared FGM as a crime against religion.

Father Peter Konteh, a catholic priest and the president of Desert Flower Foundatin Sierra Leone, knows Pope Francis for many years.

Father Peter appreciates Pope Francis´statement and decision of Yahya Jammeh, president of the Gambia to outlaw FGM coming into effect immediately.

75% of women in the Gambia suffered FGM.

Father Peter now plans a petition to the government of Sierra Leone to outlaw FGM immediately, as 94% of women are affected by FGM.
