British officers introduce FGM campaign at Stansted airport

Although it has been illegal in the UK since 2004 for parents to cut their daugthers abroad, parents still bring their girls, mostly during summer holidays, known as the cutting season, to their homecountry to practice this terrible ritual.

The British authorities are finally setting a sign and are launching an initiative against FGM at Stansted airport. Under "Operation Limelight", a clear signal against FGM is set in cooperation with the UK Border Force, the Child Abuse Investigation Team and the Public Protection Department. Police inspector Fiona Clement shows with her initiative that "this barbaric practice is by no means tolerated"!

The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness on FGM and to encourage the population to alert the authorities in  case of suspicion.

The initiative is an important sign in the fight against FGM!

FGM is practiced not only in certain parts of Africa, Asia and the Middle East, but in communities all over the world.

Airports are an important place to operate and  stop FGM!

We demand a stricter control at airports so that girls can be prevented from being taken to their parents' home country in order to be mutilated!
