Only a few months ago new British interior minister Amber Rudd vowed to end FGM with the next generation.
Since then this promise seems to be fading away.
After supporting affected women for 10 years, a London clinic is being forced to close after the local council withdrew funding from March 2017!
Since opening the clinic in 2007, over 1000 women were treated and have grown to a community.
Closing the clinic is putting barriers around women, when they have to need access.
FGM is still a taboo within the communities, which makes it even harder for women to talk about it. The London clinic became a shelter for affected women, where they could talk about what happened to them. Taking this away from them is a major step in the wrong direction.
