Reborn on her 8th birthday! How we are changing the life of Octavia and 1000 girls!

Octavia's birthday party and her start into a life in dignity

With our sponsorship programme we focus on one girl at a time.

Change her life by saving her from being cut and and enable her to go to school... and at the end saving her from being just yet another statistic.

Over 200 million women and girls worldwide are affected by FGM.. 30 million are in danger of being cut every year.

Every 11 seconds a young girl is cut.

By now, thanks to our great supporters, we were able to save over 1000 girls from FGM.

Octavia was one of them: just seven years old, taking care of her younger siblings while her parents worked night and day to support their family.

Born in Sierra Leone where the majority of girls and women are mutilated, statistics weren't in her favor: her destiny was predicted.

But when our Desert Flower Team came into her community, her parents listened.. They listened for hours... Then they started to question the tradition.. It took a while but Octavia’s parents decided to join our programme and so did other parents.

With every wonderful sponsor, one girl in Sierra Leone can be saved  and gets the chance to attend school.

On my visit to Sierra Leone I celebrated with Octavia her 8th birthday - and the day her dignity was saved. A Day full of laughter, joy and happiness - and for the first time I could see the easiness in her eyes.

The reality of FGM and women‘s rights often seem overwhelming and make most of us ask ourselves "What can I as a single person do to stop this crime?"

We find ourselves lost in numbness.

But Octavia’s story and the story of 1000 other individual girls showed me, we can beat the odds: Every single one of us can do something.. not only support the fight against FGM  but you ACTIVELY can save a girl from being cut!

I was one of those people who asked themselves, what can possibly one person do. Now I know how I helped - and how everyone else can.

I started working at this amazing foundation and went to Sierra Leone and saw it myself... Every single sponsor is a hero saving a girl's life!

Every saved girl in turn changes the lives of those around her.
Every saved girl inspires their family and community to stop FGM. It's a ripple effect!

STOP FGM TODAY BY SAVING ONE GIRL FROM FGM!
