Earlier this month Alhaij Adebayo from Nigeria posted images on social media showing children apparently being circumcised along with a text offering free FGM in his hometown in Nigeria.
Adebayo, a building contractor, is running a unregistered charity which funds female genital cutting for low-income parents.
Shockingly he is only one out of many wealthy families in Nigeria, offering to do FGM as a charity, although Nigeria's president banned FGM in 2015. Nevertheless there is no single conviction against FGM perpetrators until today!
Once again this case shows, that legislation is not enough! Since no official complaint was filed against Adebayo, he is not going to be convicted.
FGM is happening to thousands of girls every day all over the world!
Legislation is not enough, we must put an end to this cruel crime by investing into education and AWARENESS!
