Last week, an international organization Equality Now published the study on FGM in the United States demonstrating that 507,000 girls in this country are acutely threatened by FGM. 26 out of the 50 U.S. states still do not have laws against FGM. No awareness campaigns are organized in the United States and the subject was hushed up in the media long time ago. President Obama who raised the issue of FGM in an exemplary manner in Africa and provoked stormy discussion in African society, is now urged to undertake appropriate measures against FGM in his own country, the United States, in order to eradicate this cruel crime against little girls once and for all.
