One of our benefiaries is 13-year old Melrose from Freetown. She is as child of the Blood Diamond War in Sierra Leone:
Rebels abducted her mother, gang raped and impregnated her until she gave birth to Melrose. She and her baby Melrose spent more than two years with them, until they were able to flee. After the war they were unified with their family.
Today Melrose lives with her mother, the adoptive father und four siblings in Freetown and attends St. Anthony Junior Secondary School Brookfield. She is a talented and hard working girl who is always reaching out to learn more.
In one of our team visits, she disclosed to our Desert Flower Foundation Team Member: “I am very much aware of the fact that I am a child of war and that it has affected me badly, especially not to even know my father.”
Our programme and your donation help to improve the life of Melrose and her family and protect her from becoming a FGM victim.
