It's July and the school holidays in the UK have started, many young girls are flown abroad and are subjected to mutilation. This is known as the "cutting season"!
For the first time the Health and Social Care Information Centre published FGM figures, which show 65.000 young girls at risk of FGM in England. Due to the legal situation in England many parents send their daugthers to their home countries during the summer holidays in order to mutilate them.
In addition, 5702 new FGM cases were recorded between April 2015 and March 2016 in England.
In total there are 170 000 young girls, who have already been subjected to FGM!
The first annual report of the HSCIC is a first step in the fight against FGM in England . However, the figures do not cover every single case. Only 38 general practitioners and 112 National Health Services Trusts were part of the survey.
Despite the high number of victims and the legal situation no-one has ever been convicted of carrying out FGM.
We demand a legal and fair trial for every perpetrator!
