Thanks to your donations, the future of the six-year-old-girl and her family is guaranteed
Next great success for Waris Dirie and her Desert Flower Foundation! 33 girls were saved in the last second from the cruel ritual of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the town of Magburaka (Tonkolili district in the centre of Sierra Leone). Among them were six-year-old Jane and her sisters Fatmata (12) and Aminata (9).
The family is now part of the Desert Flower Foundation's sponsorship. This means that the girls will be able to attend school. In return, the family undertakes to refrain from FGM by contract. Emma, the girls' mother (see photo below left), is thrilled that her children are getting a school education. Her daily life is difficult enough anyway. She is a gardener and has to go through a marshland every day to sell at least some of her sparse harvest on the market.
But thanks to your donations, the life of this family is now much more easier.
