200 miilion women and girls are affected by FGM worldwide!
After a very long time the WHO finally introduced FGM guidelines on how to treat women and girls subjected to FGM!
The WHO warns doctors, who despite the jurisdiction still perform FGM, that it is against the Hippocratic Oath "Do no harm!"
The guidelines are aimed to healthcare professionals, who should be taught how to treat girls and women who have undergone FGM.
Inadequately trained professionals can lead to physical and psychological consequences. Healthcare professionals have a crucial role in helping adress this global health issue, therefore it is important to know how to recognize and tackle health comoplications of FGM.
The published guidelines had been long in coming, but they are finally a step in the right direction.
