Waris Dirie's last visit to Sierra Leone has shaken up! Her Desert Flower Foundation's campaign against female genital mutilation (FGM) is gaining momentum and reaching numerous regions. An outcry goes through the country. The highlight: Politicians also join the fight against FGM.
Member of Parliament Ibrahim Aziz Bangura ("I will support the fight against FGM") has promised to file an application in parliament. For Waris Dirie a milestone: "FGM is not a religion, it is a cruel crime against little girls and has absolutely no right to exist in the 21st century. In the name of love, for your daughters, stop it!" Waris Dirie is also actively supported by Father Peter Konteh, President of the Desert Flower Foundation in Sierra Leone. "FGM is a sin, a crime and causes severe physical damage. There is no need for it at all."
