My name is Salamatu and I am 5 years old. I live together with my three cousins and my grandparents in the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown. My parents abandoned me two years ago. But I knew from the beginning, someday my mother will be with me again!
My grandmother is a house gardener and she earns very little. Sometimes it was very difficult for us. Fortunately, we have learned of the sponsorship project of the Desert Flower Foundation and since then we live a better life.
The Desert Flower Foundation is currently active in 12 European and African countries. One of our offices is based in Stockholm (Solna), in Sweden. Desert Flower Foundation Scandinavia is in close co-operation with Karolinska University Hospital renowned and responsible for giving the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
Esther is 6 years old and has been participating in the “Save a little Desert Flower” program of the Desert Flower Foundation for several months. She lives in the second largest city in Sierra Leone called Bo City, which have been considerably destroyed in the civil war, and severely affected by Ebola.
Esther is a very shy girl who barely has friends at school. Nevertheless, she is very smart and learns faster than all the other kids in her class. She loves to recite poems and has a very good memory. Esther also enjoys singing and listening to music. During one of her health and integrity examinations performed by our paediatrician, Dr.Frances Sesay, our small girl was diagnosed with umbilical hernia, which is treated now.
I would like to thank my sponsor, Anne-Katrin Berning
My name is Adama Kamara. I am 9 years old and I live with my grandmother and my two siblings, one boy, and one girl in the west end of Freetown. I attend the third class at the Dr. Jude Primary School.
I support my grandmother cleaning the house and washing the dishes. I love my grandmother. She grows vegetables in our little garden and sells it on the market.
Haja is 6 years old and goes to the St. Francis Primary School in Newton, Sierra Leone. She is regarded as an exceptionally talented girl. Due to her extraordinary intelligence, she succeeded to skip 3 school classes during her first school year. This small talented girl has learned to read and write in her free time. Haja's greatest dream is to get more school materials and books.
